INTRODUCTION

The chosen topic for this analysis is the media coverage surrounding America's last Prisoner of War, Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl.

In 2009, Bergdahl walked off his post in Afghanistan and was quickly captured by the Taliban.

Bergdahl was held captive for almost five years before the Obama administration secured a release deal in 2014.

In exchange for the soldier's freedom, the White House released five Taliban members who were being held at Guantanamo Bay.

This exchange deal went around Congress, who were not informed of the agreement, and put both Bergdahl and the administration under heavy scrutiny.

In December 2015, popular journalism podcast, Serial, focused eleven episodes on Bergdahl's case.

Additionally, Presidential candidate, Donald Trump, is currently negatively referencing Bergdahl on his campaign trail.

This analysis will investigate if coverage of Bergdahl's release has been affected by this publicity.
